Born in the year 1559, he entered the Capuchin Order where he taught theology to his brethren and engaged in many of the works of the Order. As a renowned preacher he travelled throughout Europe and he wrote many works to explain the Catholic faith. He died at Lisbon in 1619. He was beatified by Pope Pius VI in 1783 and was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1881. He was declared a Doctor of the Church by Blessed John XXIII in 1959.
