Hymn

Let us with voice and spirit clear
Saint Lawrence celebrate
who followed Jesus' precepts, bore
his burden's gentle weight.

Like Francis, seeing the decay;
as sacred standards fell.
he clothed himself with poverty
to wage a war on hell.

He followed close in Francis' steps
with deep humility,
and swiftly learned the secrets of
his Christlike sanctity.

In prayer he dwelt on Jesus' pain;
when hearing Holy Mass
his soul beyond all sense was torn
by Jesus on the Cross.

He loved God's Mother and would preach
and celebrate her praise,
while she in turn rewarded him
with countless gifts of grace.

All glory to the Trinity,
the fount of endless praise;
in heaven with Saint Lawrence may
we joyful voices raise.

Scripture Reading [James 3, 17-18]
The wisdom that comes down from above is essentially something pure; it also makes peace, and is kindly and considerate; it is full of compassion and shows itself by doing good; nor is there any trace of partiality or hypocrisy in it. Peacemakers, when they work for peace, sow the seeds which will bear fruit in holiness.

Short Responsory
【V】:This man became a teacher in the Church of God.
【R】:This man became a teacher in the Church of God.

【V】:The Lord filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding.
【R】:This man became a teacher in the Church of God.

【V】:Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
【R】:This man became a teacher in the Church of God.

Magnificat Antiphon
O holy Doctor, Saint Lawrence, light of the Church, lover of the law of God, pray for us to the Son of God.

My soul glorifies the Lord, *
my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.

He looks on his servant in her lowliness; *
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.

The Almighty works marvels for me. *
Holy his name!

His mercy is from age to age, *
on those who fear him.

He puts forth his arm in strength *
and scatters the proud-hearted.

He casts the mighty from their thrones *
and raises the lowly.

He fills the starving with good things, *
sends the rich away empty.

He protects Israel, his servant, *
remembering his mercy,

the mercy promised to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his sons for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Magnificat Antiphon
O holy Doctor, Saint Lawrence, light of the Church, lover of the law of God, pray for us to the Son of God.

Intercessions
Let us humbly pray to Christ, the source of true wisdom and all virtue, saying:
Lord, may your kingdom come.【R】

You sent your disciples to preach the Gospel
- grant that we may be nourished by that same Gospel, and may preach it to the whole world.【R】

By your coming you wrought the salvation of the world
- grant that we may be faithful labourers in your service.【R】

You placed Saint Lawrence over his brethren and enriched him with the gifts of the Spirit
- fill us also with the fortitude and understanding of your Spirit.【R】

Through the pastors of your Church you give your sheep eternal life
- save the faithful departed, for whom you laid down your life.【R】

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Concluding Prayer
Lord God, you bestowed on Saint Lawrence of Brindisi the spirit of counsel and fortitude, so that your name might be glorified and souls be saved. At the intercession of Saint Lawrence grant that we may see what we have to do, and, in your mercy, give us the strength to do it: we ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
