O Francis, Founder of our Way
By golden rules of life,
Oh! grant that always we obey
As your disciples true.
Our teacher be, that we may live
A poor and stricter life
And in our poverty still give
A hatred of the world.
May all our hearts have burning zest
Through Christ's own fiery love,
That love, which filled your ardent breast
While in this world you lived.
Those very wounds which Christ had borne

May we with fervent thought be drawn
On this to meditate.
Our brethren may we strive to save
With all the powers of grace;
In hardship and in danger grave
No fear disturb our life.

Christ our Lord established the Church with his own blood, and has graciously called us to be followers of Francis; let us humbly pray to him, saying:

You are the light of the nations and the teacher of holiness; grant that we may firmly adhere to the true faith

Father, you helped our seraphic Father Francis reflect the image of Christ through a life of poverty and humility. May we follow your Son by walking in the footsteps of Francis of Assisi and by imitating his joyful love: grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
