Evening Prayer
0814 Martyr Memorial
HYMN
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

Scripture Reading [Rom. 8, 28-30]
We know that by turning everything to their good God co-operates with all those who love him, with all those that he has called according to his purpose. They are the ones he chose specially long ago and intended to become true images of his Son, so that his Son might be the eldest of many brothers. He called those he intended for this; those he called he justified, and those he justified he shared his glory.
Responsory
【V】:The Lord loved him and adorned him.
【R】:The Lord loved him and adorned him.
【V】:He put a robe of glory on him.
【R】:and adorned him.
【V】:Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
【R】:The Lord loved him and adorned him.
Magnificat Antiphon
The way we came to understand love was that the Lord laid down his life for us; we too must lay down our lives for our brothers.
My soul glorifies the Lord, *
my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness; *
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me. *
Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age, *
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength *
and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones *
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things, *
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant, *
remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his sons for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

INTERCESSIONS
This is the hour when the King of martyrs offered his life in the upper room and laid it down on the cross. Let us thank him and say:
【R】We praise you, O Lord.
We praise you, O Lord, our Savior, inspiration and example for every martyr, for loving us to the end:
- We praise you, O Lord.【R】
For calling all repentant sinners to the rewards of life:
- We praise you, O Lord.【R】
For entrusting to your Church the blood of the new and everlasting covenant poured out for the remission of sin:
- We praise you, O Lord.【R】
For our perseverance in your grace today:
- We praise you, O Lord.【R】
For incorporating our dead brothers and sisters into your own death today:
- We praise you, O Lord.【R】
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Concluding Prayer
Heavenly Father, you inflamed blessed Maximilian the priest with love for the Immaculate Virgin and filled him with zeal for souls and love of neighbour. Through his prayers grant us to work strenuously for your glory in the service of men, and so be made conformable to your Son until death: we ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
