Evening Prayer
0613 Pastors Feast
Hymn
Let us rejoice this holy day
With Christ, the king of joy,
To celebrate Saint Anthony
And for his guidance pray.
Saint Francis' follower, this saint
Beneath his banner fought
Seeking humility, restraint,
How to be set at nought.
Advice and wisdom that he taught
Spread far across the earth
And many miracles were wrought
In answer to his prayer.
All glory be to God most high
In heaven and earth, be praise;
We ask this of Saint Anthony
Who tastes eternal peace.
Psalmody
Psalm 14
Ant. 1:Beloved by God and man, his memory is for ever blessed.
Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent *
and dwell on your holy mountain?
He who walks without fault; *
he who acts with justice
and speaks the truth from his heart; *
he who does not slander with his tongue;
he who does no wrong to his brother, *
who casts no slur on his neighbour,
who holds the godless in disdain, *
but honours those who fear the Lord;
he who keeps his pledge, come what may; *
who takes no interest on a loan
and accepts no bribes against the innocent. *
Such a man will stand firm for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.
Ant. 1:Beloved by God and man, his memory is for ever blessed.
Psalm 111
Ant. 2:Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights.
Happy the man who fears the Lord, *
who takes delight in all his commands.
His sons will be powerful on earth; *
the children of the upright are blessed.
Riches and wealth are in his house; *
his justice stands firm for ever.
He is a light in the darkness for the upright: *
he is generous, merciful and just.
The good man takes pity and lends, *
he conducts his affairs with honour.
The just man will never waver: *
he will be remembered forever.
He has no fear of evil news; *
with a firm heart he trust in the Lord.
With a steadfast heart he will not fear; *
he will see the downfall of his foes.
Open - handed, he gives to the poor; +
his justice stands firm forever. *
His head will be raised in glory.
The wicked man sees and is angry, +
grinds his teeth and fades away; *
the desire of the wicked leads-to doom.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.
Ant. 2:Here is my servant whom I uphold; my chosen one in whom my soul delights.
Canticle: Rev. 15, 3-4
Ant. 3:As a reward the Lord has given me a tongue with which I will sing his praises.
Great and wonderful are your deeds, *
O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways, *
O King of the ages!
Who shall not fear and glorify your name, O Lord? *
For you alone are holy.
All nations shall come and worship you, *
for your judgements have been revealed.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.
Ant. 3:As a reward the Lord has given me a tongue with which I will sing his praises.
Scripture Reading [Isaiah 58, 10-11]
If you give your bread to the hungry, and relief to the oppressed, your light will rise in the darkness, and your shadows become like noon. God will always guide you, giving you relief in desert places. He will give strength to your bones and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters never run dry.
Short Responsory
【V】:His memory shall never fade.
【R】:His memory shall never fade.
【V】:Every generation will remember his name.
【R】:His memory shall never fade.
【V】:Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
【R】:His memory shall never fade.
Magnificat Antiphon
O holy Doctor, Saint Anthony, light of the Church, lover of the law of God, pray for us to the Son of God.
My soul glorifies the Lord, *
my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her lowliness; *
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me. *
Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age, *
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength *
and scatters the proud-hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones *
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things, *
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant, *
remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers, *
to Abraham and his sons for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Intercessions
Christ is the only source of life and the foundation of every virtue; let us offer him our humble prayer:
Lord, may your kingdom come.【R】
You sent your disciples out over the whole world to proclaim the Good News to all creation
- may those who preach the Gospel today be filled with your Spirit.【R】
You were at work everywhere with those who preach the Gospel, adding force to their words
- may we always witness wholeheartedly to your resurrection.【R】
You gave Saint Anthony the gifts needed to build up the Order
- May we be your witnesses in the world to the truth of the Gospel, and be always pleasing to you.【R】
May non-believers enter into the community of the Church to increase the number of your people
- may there be one fold and one shepherd.【R】
Remember all our friars and sisters who sleep in peace
- may we be reunited with them in eternal life.【R】
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Concluding Prayer
Almighty, ever-loving God, you gave Saint Anthony of Padua to your people as a preacher of great power and a patron in their needs. Grant that, with his help, we may follow the Christian way of life, and feel your aid in all our trials: we ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
