Hymn

Firmly I believe and truly
God is three, and God is one
and I next acknowledge duly
manhood taken by the Son.

And I trust and hope most fully
in that manhood crucified;
and each thought and deed unruly
do to death, as he has died.

Simply to his grace and wholly
light and life and strength belong;
and I love supremely, solely,
him the holy, him the strong.

And I hold in veneration,
for the love of him alone,
Holy Church, as his creation,
and her teachings as his own.

Adoration aye be given,
with and through the angelic host,
to the God of earth and heaven,
Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Scripture Reading [2 Cor. 1, 3-5]
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, a gentle Father and the God of all consolation, who comforts us in all our sorrows, so that we can offer others, in their sorrows, the consolation that we have received from God ourselves. Indeed, as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so, through Christ, does our consolation overflow.

Short Responsory
【V】:The Lord is my strength, I will sing praise to him, alleluia, alleluia.
【R】:The Lord is my strength, I will sing praise to him, alleluia, alleluia.

【V】:He is my salvation, alleluia, alleluia.
【R】:The Lord is my strength, I will sing praise to him, alleluia, alleluia.

【V】:Glory be Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
【R】:The Lord is my strength, I will sing praise to him, alleluia, alleluia.

Benedictus Antiphon
To him who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the paradise of God.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! *
He has visited his people and redeemed them.

He has raised up for us a mighty saviour *
in the house of David his servant,

as he promised by the lips of holy men, *
those who were his prophets from of old.

A saviour who would free us from our foes, *
from the hands of all who hate us.

So his love for our fathers is fulfilled *
and his holy covenant remembered.

He swore to Abraham our father to grant us, *
that free from fear, and saved from the hands of our foes,

we might serve him in holiness and justice *
all the days of our life in his presence.

As for you, little child, *
you shall be called a prophet of God, the Most High.

You shall go ahead of the Lord *
to prepare his ways before him,

To make known to his people their salvation *
through forgiveness of all their sins,

the loving-kindness of the heart of our God *
who visits us like the dawn from on high.

He will give light to those in darkness, +
those who dwell in the shadow of death, *
and guide us into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Spirit;

as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

Benedictus Antiphon
To him who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the paradise of God.

Intercessions
Through the martyrs who were slain for God's word, let us give glory to our Saviour, the faithful and true witness:
【R】You redeemed us by your precious blood.

Through the martyrdom of your servant Fidelis, who freely accepted death to bear witness to the Gospel
- grant us, Lord, true freedom of spirit.【R】

Through the fidelity of your servant who always bravely bore witness to you before men
- grant us a pure and constant faith.【R】

Through love of the unity of your Holy People, for which your servant worked unceasingly
- give us a true ecumenical spirit.【R】

Through the fortitude of your servant, who always followed your Way of the Cross
- grant that we may bear the trials of life with courage.【R】

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Concluding Prayer
Lord God, you crowned Saint Fidelis with a martyr's death, when, filled with your love, he was preaching the faith. Let our lives be rooted in love, so that with him, and by his prayer, we may know the power of Christ's resurrection. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
